LION CUBS SWOOP FOR CHAMP MAX

LEICESTER have won the race to sign teenage talent Max Perry for the 2022 National Development League season.

Perry, who turns 15 in April thus making him eligible for NDL racing, boasts a tremendous record of success in his career to date ahead of his step up to full league action with the Lion Cubs.

He has won a host of titles for his age group in several categories of the sport, including the British Grasstrack Championship on five occasions and the World Longtrack Championship in Germany in 2019.

Last year he moved up to the 500cc section of the British Youth Championship where he finished runner-up to former Lion Cubs rider Ben Trigger, who is a year older.

And after gaining further experience by being club mascot for Premiership champions Peterborough, where he was fully involved in club activities, he’s now delighted to get his first opportunity in the NDL at the Paul Chapman & Sons Arena.

Perry said: “I’ve always liked the Leicester track and have done many training days there. I think this will be a great way to start my National League career.

“I like to set myself challenges. My main target is to try and score in each of my races, have fun, and gain lots of experience at the same time.

“If I can make it to the main body of the team or even a heat-leader by the end of the season, that would be my ultimate goal – but I realise this will be very tough!”

Boss Dave Howard has confirmed the signing of Perry is the continuation of a clear club policy which aims to bring some of the sport’s most promising youngsters to Leicester, where they will be given every opportunity to progress.

Howard said: “Once again, we have looked to add a rider with great potential entering his first year in league racing, and we have achieved that with Max.

“Building on his 2021 experience of second place in the British Youth Championship together with his time spent close to the Premiership winning Peterborough team, it will be exciting to see Max’s progress in 2022 as part of the Lion Cubs team.”

The Lion Cubs will complete their line-up by naming their No.1 for the new season on Thursday.
